My conference profile

Introduction

While around 25,000 people are fortunate enough to attend the conference in Mexico City, there are 33 million people who are infected with HIV, and many millions more who work in HIV or who provide care and support to positive family members. The hubs represent a unique opportunity for people otherwise not able to attend the conference in person, to be a part of the conference from a remote location.

Hubs will enhance local synergy, increase AIDS awareness, give attendees the opportunity to network with one another and give them the opportunity to discuss conference presentations so that these may be adapted to their own environments.

If informing about HIV/AIDS, poverty and development or protection of vulnerable population belongs to the goals of your organization, setting up a hub will give you a unique opportunity to disseminate best practices, raise awareness and unite your people around one of the most pressing issues of the 21st century.

Practically

Organizing a hub if not as complicated as it seems. All you need is

  1. A venue with adequate seating
  2. A computer, a projector, a screen and a decent sound system
  3. A good internet connection (the content will be provided free of charge to all approved hubs)
  4. The ability and resources to advertise the hub to your target group (all hubs will be advertised on the AIDS 2008 web site)

If you are interested in setting up a hub, please read our detailed F.A.Q. (pdf format, get Acrobat Reader) or register it directly online.

If you cannot organize a hub but are interested in attending one, please visit this page.
